International
Bonds

These are bonds for more
sophisticated fixed income investors looking for global currency
diversification. International bonds are issued from a country outside of
the United States, and are normally classified as:
- Eurobonds
– Debt instruments sold by issuers outside of their home country, and in
different currencies. Interest is normally paid annually, and in most
cases foreign taxes on interest payments are not withheld.
- Yankee bonds
- Issued in the United States by non-U.S. issuers (foreign governments and
corporations), and traded in U.S. dollars. Interest is normally paid
semi-annually, and the bonds are registered with the SEC.
- Global Bonds
- Sold in the U.S. and abroad; interest is normally paid semi-annually
The rating agencies also
